This 5-day workshop is an in-depth introduction to the fascinating world of academic drawing and painting. Using the draped figure as our subject, students will be introduced to the same academic principals, techniques and old-world art materials that I use in my own work.
I will begin the workshop with a demonstration of the different components of the academic process. From there, students begin their own series of composition, gesture, and colour studies, in graphite, charcoal, and oil. Having thoroughly studied the subject, the students then begin an oil painting of the model from life. I will work side-by-side with the students, offering individual critiques throughout each day.
As the critiques are catered to the individual needs of each student, this workshop is open to painters of all skill levels. However, space is limited to 6 students. Places will be reserved on a first come, first served basis.
A note about traditional painting materials.
Tuition price of $525 CAD includes beginning drawing and painting materials (for the first day) and taxes. A materials list will be provided so that students may furnish their own materials. However, many of our traditional materials are of a very high quality and not easily obtainable. So, students will be able to acquire materials through the studio.
The model fee is not included, and will be shared equally by the number of students in the class.
This class is full at 6 students. If you would like to be notified if a spot opens up, please use the form below. Thank you.
