(Tim McGuire Fine Art Studio, 218 Lincoln Street, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia)
March 31 - June 3 (Wed or Thurs)
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
$925 CAD (hst incl)
The part time painting studio is an exciting and rare opportunity to be part to an academic painting group with guided instruction. Participants will work on individual andgroup projects. And the teacher will always be on-hand to do demonstrations, give critiques, answer questions, and guide your growth as a painter.
We will have two groups with a maximum of 6 students per group. When registering, students will choose either Wednesday or Thursday as their studio day. Then, students will attend every week on that day for the 10 week duration.
During each10-week instructed studio session, students paint still-life in the morning and portraits in the afternoon. These are essential skills for any artist. Working in graphite, charcoal, and oil, students hone their observational skills and develop an understanding of value, colour, composition, and form. The part-time studio sessions run for 10 weeks at a time, with a new session beginning every season.
We will begin with a demonstration of the different components of the academic process. From there, students begin their own series of composition, gesture, and colour studies, in graphite, charcoal, and oil. Having thoroughly studied the subject, the students then begin an oil painting from life. I will work side-by-side with the students, offering individual critiques throughout each day.
We will have still life set up for the whole group. As well, students will have their own space in which to set up a still life of their own using items from home or the studio.
As the critiques are catered to the individual needs of each student, this studio membership is open to painters of all skill levels. However, space is limited to 6 students. Places will be reserved on a first come, first served basis.
A note about traditional painting materials.
Tuition price of $925 CAD includes beginning drawing and painting materials (for the first day) and taxes. A materials list will be provided so that students may furnish their own materials. However, many of our traditional materials are of a very high quality and not easily obtainable. So, students will be able to buy and rent materials through the studio.
The model fee is not included, and will be shared equally by the number of students in the class.
